James J. Kelliher, 80, of 24 Russell Ave., Pawcatuck, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007, at The Westerly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Bailey) Kelliher.
Born in Pawcatuck on Oct. 13, 1926, he was the son of the late James W. and Margarite (Connors) Kelliher.
Mr. Kelliher worked at Electric Boat in Groton for over 24 years before retiring as Manager of outside facilities.
Jim was a World War II Navy Veteran and received the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
Jim was a member of the class of '44 of Stonington High School and attended Putnam Technical School.
Mr. Kelliher was an active member of the United Congregational Church and served on the board of directors and as an usher. He was a member of the Men's Club of the UCC.
He was an avid golfer and reader.
Besides his wife of over 57 years he will be sadly missed by his two sons, Michael L. Kelliher of Stow, Maine, and Mark J. Kelliher of North Stonington. He also leaves his sisters, Patricia Bressette of Pawcatuck, Sheila Delvy of Westerly, Margaret Richards of Pawcatuck and Jeanette Fecteau of Waitsfield, Vt. He was the loving grandfather of five and great grandfather of eight. He was predeceased by his brother Carl W. Kelliher and two sisters, Helen Henry and Ann M. Sullivan.
Funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m., in the United Congregational Church, 9 Castle Hill Road, Pawcatuck. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery Beach Street, Westerly.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.
Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the United Congregational Church.
